A. Kadish et al., FREQUENCY-SPECTRA OF NONLINEAR ELASTIC PULSE-MODE WAVES, The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 100(3), 1996, pp. 1375-1382
The frequency spectrum of simple waves is used to derive a closed form
analytical representation for the frequency spectrum of damped nonlin
ear pulses in elastic materials. The damping modification of simple wa
ve theory provides an efficient numerical method for calculating propa
gating wave forms. The spectral representation, which is neither pulse
length nor amplitude limited, is used to obtain estimates for paramet
ers of the nonlinear state relation for a sandstone sample from publis
hed experimental data, and the results are compared with those of othe
r theories. The method should have broad application to many solids.
