The formation of 4-phenylaminophenyldiphenylcarbinol and related triar
ylmethane dye was observed upon tile recombination of ketyl and diphen
ylamine radicals in surfactant micelles. The negative magnetic effect
of the reaction studied reaches 1.8 and is caused by an increase in th
e escape of the radicals from tile cage due to increasing lifetime of
triplet radical pairs.
