Abstract
A gas sensor system for the detection of smouldering fires of lignite is described. The evaluation algorithm takes advantage of the observat ion that the ratios of concentrations of CO and H-2 near the source an d at the sensor head deviate only to a minor degree due to diffusion, if the gas reaches the sensors within a few minutes.
