The ''dermatophytic disease'' (chronic granulomatous dermatophytosis)
is a rare, severe affection caused by can non dermatophytes. A genetic
ally predisposed ground could explain the frequent failure of antifung
al therapeutics. We report one case, from a 42-year-old male patient,
with characteristic dermatophytic disease due to Trichophyton violaceu
m. Despite 8 months of griseofulvin, 12 months of itraconazole, 26 mon
ths of ketoconazole and 1,5 months of terbinafine, the therapeutic esc
ape was evident leading to septicemia and death. The correction of the
immunodeficient ground combined with antifungals could be the best th
erapeutic.
