Distribution of plant species in different habitats along a west-east
transect across Bahrain Island was studied. Total cover, relative cove
r, life-form spectrum, and importance values for the dominant species
were determined. Possible relationships between species distribution a
nd some environmental factors are discussed. The study shows species d
istribution to be similar to that found in the corresponding habitats
in the rest of the Arabian Peninsula. Species with the highest percent
age of occurrence were Zygophyllum qatarense, Helianthemum kahiricum a
nd Panicum turgidum. (C) 1996 Academic Press Limited
