Ba. Carlson et Eb. Mclean, BUFFER ZONES AND DISTURBANCE TYPES AS PREDICTORS OF FLEDGING SUCCESS IN GREAT BLUE HERONS, ARDEA-HERODIAS, Colonial waterbirds, 19(1), 1996, pp. 124-127
Nineteen nesting colonies of Great Blue Herons (Ardea herodias) were s
urveyed in northeast Ohio and western Pennsylvania. Fledging success w
as correlated with the type of barrier forming a buffer zone around ea
ch site, and the types of human disturbances experienced. Fledging suc
cess was not related to colony size or to width of the buffer zone.
