A new species of Fittkaumyia from central Brazil, F. crypta sp. n., is
described as larva, pupa, male and female image, and observations on
the habitat and biology are given. F. crypta is easiest to distinguish
from the other three known species of this genus in the pupal stage b
y the numerous lateral taeniae on segment VIII. Our study reveals that
three characters, previously considered to be valid on generic level
(overlapping anal lobe points, antepronotum reduced, eyes not irridesc
ent), do not apply to F. crypta.
