G. Kern et al., ANALYTICAL APPROACH TO SUBSPAN OSCILLATIONS OF BUNDLED CONDUCTORS, Zeitschrift fur angewandte Mathematik und Mechanik, 76, 1996, pp. 573-574
Under certain conditions, i.e. wind velocity and surrounding terrain,
twin bundled conductors or quadruple bundles of overhead transmission
fines are aerodynamically unstable. This instabilities are due to the
leeward conductor lying in the wake of the windward one. Using quasi-s
teady linear flutter theory, [3,5,6], we predict flutter boundaries su
ch as flutter regions of the leeward conductor and critical flutter ve
locities. As the linear model is incapable of predicting the character
istics of the resulting limit-cycle, a nonlinear model is used to inve
stigate the post-bifurcational behaviour by the aid of the two time sc
ale method.
