Abstract
Oxidation of fullerene was performed with fuming nitric acid and a sol uble orange compound was synthesized and identified as polyhydroxy-pol ynitro fullerene. The formation of fullerene derivatives containing ox ygen and fluorine were attempted by different methods using F-2, HF aq ueous solution and fuming nitric acid. Resulting compounds were genera lly characterized by X-ray diffraction and IR and NMR spectroscopy.
