Ts. Watson et Sl. Robinson, DIRECT BEHAVIORAL CONSULTATION - AN ALTERNATIVE TO TRADITIONAL BEHAVIORAL CONSULTATION, School psychology quarterly, 11(3), 1996, pp. 267-278
Traditional behavioral consultation relies almost exclusively on the v
erbal interchange between the consultant and consultee to remediate a
client problem and to equip consultee's with skills they can use in fu
ture situations. Although this approach may bd appropriate in some cas
es, we contend that a more direct means of delivering consultative ser
vices will result in greater consultee skill development and higher in
tegrity in school-based interventions. Thus, we present an alternative
to traditional consultation Direct Behavioral Consultation, which use
s empirically-based methods for teaching skills to consultees. A descr
iption of Direct Behavioral consultation is given in addition to examp
les Of how it was applied in each of the four stages of consultation i
n school settings. Suggestions for research in direct behavioral consu
ltation are also provided.
