A numerical analysis of chaotic effects in hared laser structures is p
resented. A numerical model based on the beam propagation method is us
ed which includes saturation and temperature effects. Instabilities ob
served at the output are shown to be chaotic. Reconstruction of the st
range attractor is employed for analysis of the leading Lyapunov expon
ent and the correlation dimension. Different control parameters are ex
amined, and all show several phases of the system: stable, periodic, a
nd chaotic.
