Ae. Stewart et Ea. Stewart, A DECISION-MAKING TECHNIQUE FOR CHOOSING A PSYCHOLOGY INTERNSHIP, Professional psychology, research and practice, 27(5), 1996, pp. 521-526
A new method, the paired-comparison ranking technique, is proposed for
assisting with internship selection decisions. This technique is disc
ussed in terms of its ability to minimize the effects of decision fram
es (cf. D. Kahneman & A. Tversky, 1984) as internship sites are select
ed. The technique is also compared with M. C. Jacob's (1987) internshi
p decision grid. The paired-comparison ranking technique requires a gr
eater number of choices to be made about internship sites and may requ
ire internship applicants to think more deeply about their alternative
s. Specific instructions and a detailed example are provided to illust
rate how to complete and interpret the paired-comparison ranking techn
ique.
