The Historical and Museum Committee has served for many years as a cle
aringhouse for authors of historical papers. Since the early 20's, mor
e than 70 historical papers have appeared in the Transactions and the
Journal. These papers have documented many important events related to
early developments in motion-picture engineering and, more recently,
in television engineering and photo-instrumentation. Historical papers
appearing in the Journal are a continuing source of information for r
eseachers and writers. The origin and early work of the Historical Com
mittee are discussed with reference to some of the leading historical
papers published by the Society. A classified bibliography of historic
al, research and review papers published in the Transactions and the J
ournal lists more than 300 references.
