Dh. Pamphilon, COMPARATIVE CLINICAL-STUDIES OF PLATELET CONCENTRATES - EFFECTS ON CLINICAL OUTCOME AND THE USE OF HEALTH-CARE RESOURCES, Transfusion science, 17(3), 1996, pp. 343-346
The Platelet Study Group are developing proposals to conduct a prospec
tive randomised trial of different platelet products in the transfusio
n support of patients with haematological malignancy. All patients wil
l receive prestorage leucodepleted red cells and will be randomised to
receive either multiple donor non-apheresis buffy coat platelets whic
h are non-leucodepleted (BCP), single donor apheresis platelets non-le
ucocyte depleted (SDP) or single donor apheresis platelets leucocyte d
epleted (LD-SDP). All leucocyte depleted products will contain fewer t
han 5 x 10(6) WBC/transfusion. The primary objective of the study is t
o compare clinical efficacy, the incidence of adverse reactions treatm
ent outcome and the use of healthcare resources. Copyright (C) 1996 Pu
