Abstract
The breccias of Cap la Houssaye on the west flank of Piton des Neiges volcano are here interpreted as debris avalanche deposits and compared to those discovered on the submarine flank of Piton de la Fournaise v olcano. The brecciated aspect of the material basically composed of bl ocks caught in a finer matrix and the typical morphology with hills an d ridges constitute the main characteristics of these deposits and clo se similarities with debris avalanches on andesitic stratovolcanoes.
