This earthquake is the most significant event in South-East France for
the last 30 years. The aftershock activity, recorded by a mobile netw
ork far 10 days after the main shock, was abnormally low. The fault pl
ane is near vertical and strikes N40 degrees, with right-lateral strik
e-slip and small thrust component. This fault could be one of the Late
-Variscan faults that slice the subalpine basement from the Cevennes (
south-eastern Massif Central) to the Pre-Alps.
