P. Gastaldo et al., SOMATIC EMBRYOGENESIS AND ESCULIN FORMATION IN CALLI AND EMBRYOIDS FROM BARK EXPLANTS OF AESCULUS-HIPPOCASTANUM L, PLANT SCI, 119(1-2), 1996, pp. 157-162
Somatic embryogenesis was obtained from bark explants of Aesculus hipp
ocastanum L. cultured in agarized Murashige and Skoog medium supplemen
ted with some growth substances (2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid, kinet
ine, I-naphthalene acetic acid, 2.0 mg/l of each). Esculin and its agl
ucon, esculetin, were tested in calli and embryoids by HPLC; their pre
sence in somatic embryos was confirmed by H-1-NMR. The results indicat
e that esculin and esculetin were present in noticeable amounts in all
of the analyzed samples.
