J. Korpela et M. Tuominen, A DECISION-SUPPORT SYSTEM FOR STRATEGIC ISSUES MANAGEMENT OF LOGISTICS, International journal of production economics, 46, 1996, pp. 605-620
The strategic importance of logistics is steadily increasing and thus
formal approaches to logistics planning are needed. A typical logistic
s strategic planning process is periodical and usually lacks the abili
ty to cope with changes in the operating environment. In this paper, w
e present a framework for logistics strategic management where a strat
egic planning process is integrated with a continuous strategic issues
management process. We develop a decision support system based on the
Analytic Hierarchy Process that forms the basis for a systematic and
flexible strategic issues management process. The proposed DSS support
s the following main phases in strategic issues management: the analys
is of the impacts of the identified strategic issues and the determina
tion of the actions to be taken by an organisation in response to the
strategic issues.
