Abstract
A study is made of nuclear molecular configurations in Yb-161,Yb-162. It is concluded that certain molecular configurations may be sufficien tly stable at high spin for the depopulating gamma transitions to be o bservable above the background of statistical transitions. Such gamma transitions may have been observed in recent experiments on fusion rea ctions of O-17,O-18 and Sm-144.
