Abstract
Totally 1169 bovine milk samples from four different Hungarian cattle breeds (206 Hungarian Grey, 195 Hungarian Spotted, 578 Hungarian Holst ein, and 190 Hungaro-Friesian) were typed for alpha(SI); beta-, kappa- casein and beta-lactoglobulin genetic variants using ultrathin-layer p olyacrylamide isoelectric focusing in the presence of carrier ampholyt es. Gene frequencies were calculated and many differences in gene freq uencies between breeds were shown to be significant. The overall genet ic distance between the tested cow populations was estimated by means of genetic similarities measured only for the four milk protein loci.
