Abstract
It is usual to stop prophylaxis of most surgical patients at hospital discharge. However, there is increasing evidence that some patients ar e at risk of thromboembolism after treatment is stopped. Some evidence and several proposals from the literature are presented, but to date, the situation remains unclear.
