A new species of Calvatomina Yosii, 1966 is described from French Guia
na: Calvatomina guyanensis sp.n. The description is mainly based on th
e chaetotaxy of appendices and small abdomen with a particular attenti
on to ontogeny. The genus Calvatomina is justified by the emphasis lai
d on two characters: the parafurcal area shows four or five neosminthu
roid setae, and several swollen setae present on the head in first ins
tar get back to a slender shape from second instar (that fits with a r
eversion). Calvatomina guyanensis is included in the group rufescens.
Presence vs absence and morphology of the setae on the small abdomen a
re used for distinguishing the species of this group.
