A survey of our experimental activity in laser chemistry of adsorbed d
imethylcadmium (DMCd) is presented. The dissociation, ionization, and
desorption of DMCd and its fragments have been studied by laser desorp
tion mass spectrometry. Both chemisorbed monolayer and physisorbed mul
tilayer were considered. Si(100), fused quartz, crown glass, and stain
less steel were used as substrates. A variety of pulsed lasers from IR
CO2 (9.4 mu m) to UV KrCl (222 nm) were applied to induce the process
es in adsorbed DMCd. The mechanisms based on resonant excitation of ad
sorbate, photoexcitation or heating of substrates were realized. The s
pecial features of adlayer photochemistry compared with gaseous phase
one were found.
