We report on the experiments on second-harmonic generation in plasma c
reated on the surface of a solid target by laser pulses with a duratio
n of 200 fs and intensity of about 10(15) W/cm(2). For both s- and p-p
olarized pump, an increase in the second-harmonic conversion efficienc
y is observed under the conditions of resonance excitation of surface
electromagnetic waves. The estimations of possible enhancement of the
local held in the vicinity of the target surface are made.
