Abstract
Infantile myositis, observed in the neonatal period, is rare and may b e confused with congenital muscular dystrophy, The patient presented h ere showed evidence of a myopathy with in utero onset with intrauterin e growth retardation and decreased fetal movements, A muscle biopsy de monstrated characteristic perifascicular atrophy and inflammatory infi ltrates, Initial magnetic resonance (MR) examination revealed high sig nal intensity in several proximal muscle groups, With subsequent corti costeroid treatment, the patient's symptoms, clinical course and MR fi ndings have gradually improved, The diagnosis of infantile myositis sh ould be established as early as possible, since proper treatment can l ead to resolution of clinical symptomatology and MR findings.
