Abstract
When coupling supercomputer simulations to ''virtual reality'' for rea l-time interactive visualization, the critical performance metric is t he end-to-end lag time in system response. Measuring the simulation, t racking, rendering, network, and synchronization components of lag tim e shows the feasibility of coupling supercomputers with virtual enviro nments for some applications. For others, simulation time makes intera ctivity difficult.
