This paper presents firsthand experience with the development and impl
ementation of interactive multimedia instructional materials for an en
gineering economy course attended by 1000 engineering students over th
ree years at Virginia Tech. The interactive software was developed fro
m a National Science Foundation grant aimed at enhancing the undergrad
uate engineering curriculum through increased emphasis on design and e
conomic principles. The purpose of this paper is to describe the type
of multimedia instructional materials that were developed, how they we
re implemented, and, finally, to present an evaluation of the results
from a survey in which the benefits of multimedia-based support materi
als were assessed.
