Based on a variational model, we obtain the spectra of excited states
in metallic voids. Void plasmons are seen to have a peculiar behavior,
concerning the radius of the cavity, which can be ascribed to a delay
in the onset of collectivity. This is further demonstrated by the ele
ctronic currents and transition densities obtained. One of the major f
eatures of the developed method is that it enables us to describe arbi
trarily large voids, up to the bulk limit.
