Abstract
The Dyson equation for the particle-hole Green's function, including e xchange matrix elements, has been solved exactly for the effective int eraction between two electrons in a two-dimensional electron gas. The effective interaction is obtained numerically by solving the Bethe-Gol dstone integral equation in a two-dimensional electron gas. The effect of short-range correlations on static and dynamic dielectric function s is studied. Results are compared with the normal random-phase approx imation, local-field theories, and recent quantum Monte Carlo results.
