Kj. Kennelly et al., POWER LAWS, CRITICAL PHASE-TRANSITIONS, AND SHIFTS IN HEMISPHERIC ADVANTAGE - THE FIRST SHALL BE LAST, Brain and cognition, 32(2), 1996, pp. 146-148
Making use of some aspects of Logan's (1988) instance theory of the po
wer law speedup in reaction-times (RTs), we propose a dynamic systems
approach to an understanding of the critical phase transition from per
formance based on algorithms to performance based on direct memory ret
rieval. We then apply this understanding to explain shifts in hemisphe
ric differences as a function of repetitive practice.
