D. Pandolfo et al., THE DNA-SEQUENCE OF COSMID-14-5 FROM CHROMOSOME-XIV REVEALS 21 OPEN READING FRAMES INCLUDING A NOVEL GENE ENCODING A GLOBIN-LIKE DOMAIN, Yeast, 12(10B), 1996, pp. 1071-1076
In this paper is described the DNA sequence of cosmid 14-5 from chromo
some XIV of Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The sequence is 38 855 bases lon
g and contains 21 open reading frames (ORFs) plus three internal ORFs.
Six ORFs correspond to known yeast genes (SLA2, ZWF1, BLH1, KEX2, SIN
4 and URE2); two other ORFs had already been sequenced because they ar
e adjacent to known genes; the remaining 12 ORFs are novel genes. Of t
hese, one ORF (N1142) is particularly interesting since it shows a sig
nificant similarity to mammalian globin. Another ORF (N1254) displays
two zinc finger motifs as well as a DNAJ motif. The cosmid sequence ha
s been submitted to the EMBL data library under Accession Number Z6938
