Sulfones and sulfoxides synthesised from methionine and homocysteine t
hiolactone have been cyclised to amino ketones using potassium bis(tri
methylsilyl)amide. Ramberg-Backlund chemistry on one of the sulfones g
ave an amino cyclopentenone whereas acyclic alpha-amino ketones and an
ti-amino alcohols were obtained by Raney nickel desulfurisation of the
sulfoxides. Copyright (C) 1996 Elsevier Science Ltd
