It has been proven that when using Rp and Sp isomers of UCGUpAA, nonen
zymatic hydrolysis of phosphorothioate diester bond in the presence of
PVP proceeds with the inversion of configuration at the phosphorus ce
nter (I ia an in line mechanism). The application of chimeric DNA/RNA
oligomers indicates the importance of some fragments of the oligomer f
or the hydrolysis of phosphodiester bond.
