A psychophysical power law approach was used to compare the performanc
e of 13 right brain-damaged (RBD) neglect patients, 18 RBD patients wi
thout neglect and 18 orthopedic patients with no history of CNS disord
er. Power function fits were made making use of points of bisection an
d the geometric (GMs) of the shorter and longer line segments. In all
cases, the functions fit to the GMS provided superior fits (R(2)), par
ticularly for the RBD neglect and RBD without neglect patients. The fi
ndings are discussed as supporting a scalar approach to such data.
