The interpretation of visual symptoms of autism (gaze avoidance, defic
iency in interpretation of non-verbal markers for emotions) as a form
of prosopagnosia has received some support in the literature. We prese
nt here the/a first case of developmental aperceptive agnosia associat
ed to/with autism syndrome in a child. Neuropsychological assessment r
evealed that I.E. could not process any visual forms more complex than
simple geometric figures or face parts. The MRI revealed a severe enc
ephalomalacia of autism.
