R. Vanmastrigt et F. Eijskoot, ANALYSIS OF VOIDED URINE VOLUMES MEASURED USING A SMALL ELECTRONIC POCKET BALANCE, Scandinavian journal of urology and nephrology, 30(4), 1996, pp. 257-263
The aim of this research was to analyse variations in voided volumes a
nd duration and time of voiding during daily activities on a physiolog
ical basis, and to explore the possible diagnostic value of the associ
ated parameters. A small electronic device was developed to accurately
measure voided urine volumes in healthy volunteers during consecutive
periods of two to three weeks. In subsequent analysis, the voided vol
umes were related to the time interval between voidings and the durati
on of voiding. Three parameters could be identified that quantify diff
erent aspects of bladder capacity (modal volume, maximum volume and a
threshold volume in the relation between average flow-rate and voided
volume). By relating voided volumes to the time interval between voidi
ngs the circadian rhythm in urine production was detected.
