Abstract
The enzyme-inhibitor imbalance in synovial fluid together with the rec ent identification of calpastatin as an autoantigen suggests immune in terference as one of the mechanisms of chronicity in rheumatoid arthri tis (RA). Here, Henri-Andre Menard and Moustapha El-Amine review the i nvolvement of calpain and calpastatin in RA.
