Cryptosporidial oocyst infection is a common cause of diarrhea in pati
ents with AIDS. Concomitant symptoms can include crampy abdominal pain
, nausea, vomiting, and anorexia. Esophagogastroduodenoscopy is then u
seful for delineating potentially treatable pathogens. We report a cas
e of cryptosporidial duodenitis with characteristic endoscopic finding
s, biopsy correlate, and a review of the current literature. The endos
copic appearance illustrated strongly suggests proximal small bowel mu
cosal involvement with cryptosporidial oocysts.
