Analysis is made of the effect of nonuniformity of a supersonic incide
nt flow on the gas-dynamic and thermal characteristics of bodies. In t
he first part of this review, nonuniform flows of the wake type are tr
eated. The emphasis is placed on the classification and characteristic
properties of nonuniform flows, as well as on the experimental and th
eoretical methods of their investigation and on universal similarity r
elations for the thermal and dynamic characteristics of bodies in the
flow.
