P. Lemmens et al., SUBSTITUTION STUDY ON THE SPIN-PEIERLS COMPOUND CUGEO3 USING RAMAN-SCATTERING, Czechoslovak journal of Physics, 46, 1996, pp. 1979-1980
The substitution of Zn on the Cu-site and Si on the Ge-site of CuGeO3
quenches the spin-Peierls state. All substitutions lead to a suppressi
on of the spin-Peierls gap seen below T-SP=14K at 30 cm(-1) and to a c
hange of the temperature dependence of the spinon continuum at 200-350
cm(-1) attributed to a frustration induced Heisenberg exchange scatte
ring. A substitution of Zn on the Cu-site has the strongest effect. Th
e change of the continuum results from a local depression of the spin-
Peierls gap near the impurity.
