Abstract
Ultrasonic attenuation mesurements were carried out in neutron irradia ted quartz after heat treatment. Contrary to previous findings the new data do not show evidence for a change in the distribution of the rel axation times of the tunneling states. The studied neutron dose is in the so called threshold region. The results can be understood in view of the microscopic model previously put forward for the TS in neutron irradiated quartz.
