Sf. Stokes et al., EPG TREATMENT OF SIBILANTS IN 2 CANTONESE-SPEAKING CHILDREN WITH CLEFT-PALATE, Clinical linguistics & phonetics, 10(4), 1996, pp. 265-280
Two Cantonese-speaking children with cleft palate participated in an E
PG treatment programme focused on sibilants. Remediation was rapid, an
d systemic changes occurred as a result of generalization. Implication
s for the description of the nature of affricates, their developmental
route and the difficulty they pose for children with speech disorders
are addressed. The findings are discussed within a model of output co
nstraints according to a theory of phonological neighbourhood complexi
ty.
