We have measured and studied the first tunneling spectra of the recent
ly discovered [1] high T-c material Cu1Ba2Ca3Cu4Oy (Cu-1234). This mat
erial has four Cu-O-2 layers and a T-c of 116 K. The tunneling spectra
show sharp peaks indicative of the superconducting gap at 27 meV to 3
0 meV, giving a value of 2 Delta/kT(c) of 5.4 to 6.0. We will discuss
and compare features of the tunneling spectra taken from Cu-1234 with
those taken from the n=2 member of the Bi-based cuprates (Ba-2212), wh
ich has a similar crystal structure.
