The temperature dependence of the volume change associated with the hi
gh temperature superconductivity in La1.85Sr0.15CuO4 is estimated by u
sing the Landau-Ginzburg theory and by assuming a uniform expansion of
Cu 3d-electron band width with lattice contraction. Though the calcul
ated absolute value is smaller but the order of magnitude and the tend
ency of the temperature variation are in agreement with the experiment
