We describe a prototype of a superconducting pressure gauge, expected
to eventually have a sensitivity of 3x10(-10) bar at 20 bar. The devic
e uses a superconducting diaphragm as a ground plane. Movement of the
ground plane changes the inductance of an adjacent superconducting coi
l, which modulates the current flowing through a DC SQUID. The prototy
pe showed a sensitivity of 2x10(-10) bar/root Hz in the 0.1 Hz to 1 Hz
region, and 10(-7) bar in the mHz region.
