We characterise the superconducting state of the binary carbide YC2 by
means of magnetisation and specific heat measurements. The thermodyna
mic properties reveal weak coupling superconductivity close to the typ
e I limit (kappa(GL) approximate to 0.8). The specific heat data in th
e superconducting state, as well as the C-12/C-13-isotope shift are in
excellent agreement with weak coupling BCS predictions.
