We calculate the linear response of the core of an isolated pancake vo
rtex to an AC electric field. The field couples to the localized state
s, continuum states, as well as to collective excitations of the super
conducting condensate, which leads to a non-trivial dynamical response
of the core. We use the Fermi-liquid theory of superconductivity to c
alculate the current distribution induced by the AC field, and find pr
onounced deviations from the current obtained in the Bardeen-Stephen m
odel of the core. The field generates a vortex-antivortex pair inside
the core of the equilibrium pancake vortex.
