The use of mortars based on portland cement and epoxy resins to repair
corroded reinforced concrete structures was evaluated by electrochemi
cal techniques. The effect of surface preparation also was studied. St
eel potentials were measured daily. Additionally, the degree of steel
corrosion by linear polarization was measured at different stages of t
he process. When indications of corrosion were detected, the surface w
as repaired. The blocks were subjected once more to the aggressive med
ium to evaluate the repair method. The results indicate that contamina
ted concrete must be removed for optimum performance. It also was foun
d that the behavior of blocks repaired with mortars based on epoxy res
ins depend on exposure to sunlight.
