A method for the synthesis of gaseous BrNO2 at concentrations of the o
rder of 10(-9) mol/cm(3) at atmospheric pressure is described, based o
n the heterogeneous reaction of ClNO2 with aqueous bromide solutions.
We measured the gas-phase infrared absorption cross sections in the ra
nge 700-1800 cm(-1). The matrix isolation spectrum was recorded for id
entification by comparison with literature data.
