Treatment of isotactic PP with glow discharge in air results in the ap
pearance of oxygen-containing functional groups similar to those that
are formed in the case of radical mechanism of oxidation. Plasma treat
ment affects also the melting point of PP. It was shown that the-initi
al PP synthesized with TiC(l)3-AlEt(2)Cl catalytic system in the prese
nce of hydrogen as a transfer agent consists of two crystalline struct
ures with melting points equal to 150.8 and 159.4 degrees C. The melti
ng point of lower molecular-mass and less stereoregular fraction of th
e polymer decreases, and sometimes this crystalline structure may even
disappear.
